Health and Safety Policy / Policy Review

The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 Section 2(3) requires employers to prepare and as is often as necessary revise the health and safety policy where the employer has 5 or more employees. The health and safety policy must be reviewed if there are any significant changes to the business.

Rose Health and Safety Training and Consultancy services can prepare a health and safety policy for your business and ensure that the policy is reviewed on an annual basis or if any circumstances change which effect the policy. We can also review any existing health and safety policy for compliance with business requirements and Health and Safety Law.

Risk Assessments

Rose Health and Safety Training and Consultancy Services offer the service of training businesses in risk assessment and can also assist in preparation of the risk assessment for most business activities, Risk assessments are required by The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 and other regulations i.e. COSHH, The Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992, The Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment Regulations) 1992 and others.

Safe System of Work / Method Statement Design and Implementation

Safe Systems of work are a legal requirement under The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 Section 2.2.(a)

Safe Systems of work are a formal procedure which results from a systematic examination of a task in order to identify all the hazards and risks employees are exposed too and identifies safe methods of work to ensure the hazards are eliminated or the remaining risks are minimized. Rose Health and Safety can develop a Power Point Presentation to be used for induction training that is bespoke to any business requirement; the presentation will include all health and safety elements your business manages including visual images of the workplace. The course can be delivered professionally by Rose Health and Safety or by a company Health and Safety Representative.

Health and Safety Inspection

Statutory Health and Safety Inspection are carried out for compliance with health and safety law in any business, Rose Health and Safety can assist your business by carrying out or assisting your business to conduct regular health and safety inspections to identify unsafe acts / unsafe conditions / good practice and compliance with Approved Codes of Practice / Guidance, and Health and Safety Law. The Health and Safety Inspection process can identify areas of concern within the company and corrective actions required to reduce the overall risks within the company.

Health and Safety Audit

The Health and Safety Audit examines each individual area of the business activity to a very thorough, systematic examination, with the overall aims of minimising loss throughout the business, the health and safety audit would highlight any non-conformances in Health and Safety law, Unsafe acts / Conditions and good practice within the organisation.

The Health and Safety Audit carried out by Rose Health and Safety would compromise a written report of the findings and an action plan with agreed timescales for corrective action.

Bespoke Training Courses

Rose Health and Safety specialise in designing health and safety training courses, which, meet with individual business requirements, i.e. working at height, manual handling, behavioural safety, tool box talks, machinery safety and any other safety training session required. The courses designed by Rose Health and Safety are developed on CD Rom power point presentation and include course handouts, course assessment criteria, and lesson planning documents.

Fire risk assessments

As the responsible person you must carry out and regularly review a fire risk assessment of the premises. This will identify what you need to do to prevent fire and keep people safe.

You must keep a written record of your fire risk assessment if your business has 5 or more people.

Carrying out the assessment

1. Identify the fire hazards.
2. Identify people at risk.
3. Evaluate, remove or reduce the risks.
4. Record your findings and prepare an emergency plan and provide training.
5. Review and update the fire risk assessment regularly.

You’ll need to consider:
• emergency routes and exits
• fire detection and warning systems
• fire-fighting equipment
• the removal or safe storage of dangerous substances
• an emergency fire evacuation plan
• the needs of vulnerable people, e.g. the elderly, young children or those with disabilities
• providing information to employees and other people on the premises
• staff fire safety training

You’ll need to appoint a ‘competent person’ to help, e.g. a professional risk assessor, if you don’t have the expertise or time to do the fire risk assessment yourself. Rose Health and Safety Training Ltd can conduct a fire risk assessment on your behalf.
